YEF has been awarded grant funding for a neighbourhood battery within the suburb of Richmond, Victoria. The project is funded under the Australian Government’s Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water (DCCEEW) Community Batteries for Household Solar program and is expected to be completed by July 2024.
While its location is to be confirmed, the battery will likely have a capacity of around 120kW/360kWh and be “EV charger ready” – that is, able to connect an EV charger in the future, although a charger is not part of the scope of this project. You can read more about neighbourhood batteries and their benefits here.
The project will be done in collaboration with the local community (most likely through a Community Reference Group), Yarra City Council, with local network provider CitiPower, and with other project-specific partners and stakeholders.
